Uhaul CEO Gave Out Cellphone Number On National TV, But Never Picks Up Or Returns Calls [Call Joe Shoen]

joeshoen.jpgIn what looked like a daring move, the CEO of Uhaul, Joe Shoen, gave out his "cellphone number" (602-390-6525) on national TV and invited customers to call him with their complaints. The problem is, when you call, he doesn't pick up. If you leave a message, it's not returned. You get to hear Joe's gruffly charming voicemail message, but can't leave one of your own. His mailbox is full.

The message says that he's sorry he missed your call, but he checks his voicemail frequently and if you leave your name and number he'll return your call. I count three lies in that statement. The only thing worse than not being responsive and transparent to your customers is lying to them that you are. When he gave out the number, Joe said, "People can't get this organization to behave, I can." Empty words, Joe, empty words.

However, reader Teresa says she's had success by calling the corporate customer complaint line at 800-789-3638.

YouTube Forced to Reveal Username and IP Address of Every Video Watched [YouTube]

YouTube Forced to Reveal Username and IP Address of Every Video Watched [YouTube]

Remember Viacom suing YouTube and Google for one BILLION dollars eons ago? That's still going on! And while a judge ruled yesterday that while Google doesn't have to reveal its secret search sauce to the multimedia giantface, he did grant Viacom's request for YouTube to turn over records of "every video watch by YouTube users," and that includes their username and IP address. Yeah that's right, Viacom will know every time you watch "Pork n Beans" or need to refuel your day with Powerthirst. (Or watch Viacom's The Daily Show, you bastard.) And like that, the illusion of YouTube privacy was gone. [YouTube]

Don Davis, Stargate's Beloved General, RIP [Don Davis]

Don Davis, who played the cantankerous father-figure of the Stargate SG-1, Major General George Hammond, passed away on June 29. We'll always remember Davis' terrific performance as the dad-like presence who yelled when he had to and made Teal'c roll his eyes with his bad jokes.

SG-1's producer, Joe Mallozzi shared that his favorite memory of Davis' was watching him work the conventions with fans. Many fans approached the General with trepidation (because of his character) but Davis was always incredibly charming with the fans and won them over immediately. Mallozzi also added that Davis was a true friend and, "had a bigger heart than his character that he played... and will be missed not just by the fans but by everyone who worked with him."

Davis' last Stargate appearance will be in the DVD movie Stargate: Continuum. We'll miss you always setting the crew straight, Don.

Davis' representatives have asked those wishing to make a charitable donation in Davis' name to donate to the American Heart Association.
