Life is Apparently Just PEACHY In Comcast World [Advertising]

via Gizmodo by John Mahoney on 3/16/09

This AM I awoke with not one but TWO variations of the FreeCreditReport.com jingle in my head. Bad start to the week. But it could have been worse—it could have been this Comcast song.

Clearly aping the Moldy Peaches' tender Juno anthem, these new ads envision a world where everything is just fantastic and precious, all made possible by Comcast's broadband services. I must admit I find the hot tub scenario, where a floating cloud delivers a smoothy and a a stork delivers a novelty foam #1 hand while the dude sits listlessly watching TV, to be somewhat appealing.

Slate's Ad Report Card makes an excellent point: who in God's name wants to live in Comcast world? Pointing out that the campaign's website, bafflingly, lets you create your own little animated Comcast World room and outfit it with furniture, the question of who loves Comcast enough to participate in such inanities, let alone be touched by this commercial, is a total mystery. I like Slate's alternate Comcast world:

Based on my experience, Comcast Town would be a wasteland of flickering streetlights and crumbling apartment blocks. It would be populated solely by fat repairmen, who would stare listlessly at their clipboards and tell you they're still not quite sure why your cable's snowy.

What would yours look like? [Slate]
